LaRouche PAC & Health Care protests

I just caught wind of the LaRouchians being in on the Health Care Reform protests and Hitler-stache Obama signs. I also saw suggestions that the chick that got skewered by Barney Frank was a LaRouchian. Anyone know if that's true? I haven't seen any of them around MSU's campus, but I think they are more active in Ann Arbor. Any guesses on the extent to which the LaRouche movement fed the protests and related media frenzy during the August recess?

New Year's

Ok, I hate to be the one to bring this up first, but consider it brought up: New Year's.

One option brought up before was a cabin or something up north. I'm looking at cottages/cabins now. Off-season rates would probably be reasonable if we can get enough people interested. Some places ask for a minimum 3-night stay. I don't know if that's too much of a commitment.

TIME is reporting/blogging from Detroit for a full year. They will use the city as a microcosm to examine issues that affect the entire nation. Seems like a pretty cool project. Read up on it here.

The UP is a big theme on NPR this week.

Excited for week 2 football!

Kinglsayer vs. the Sensitive Butchers - If the team lineups stay as they are right now, Yahoo! projects a one point difference in favor of the Butchers...but I think it could go either way. I think Brees will fare better than Romo, but both defenses could get more points than usual (especially Chicago). I wouldn't touch Braylon Edwards with a 30 foot pole, but both teams have other players that should be huge. Excited to see how this plays out. I say the Giants will beat the Cowboys IRL.

Dunwich Horror vs. Harbingers of Death - a macabre matchup, projected to tie at 85 points each! It's also a sibling face-off. The two teams really do seem evenly matched (with lineups as they are now). Who will lead whom to their end?!?!

Calamities vs. Delicious Nachos - the Yahoo! bot thinks the Nachos will take this one, but I personally hope the Patriots bite it. I was cheering for Buffalo last week. The Calamities' WR Santonio Holmes might have a big game since the Steelers probably won't be able to run the ball much against Chicago (or anyone...). But Santonio can always choke at the last minute. I'm still not convinced that he's dependable. Antonio Gates and Derrick Ward could both be big, but compared to Marques Colston, Jason Witten and Jones-Drew...I dunno. I'm definitely skeptical about Roy Williams and LT this week, though. I'd like to see Marlowe defy fate and win this. No offense to the Nachos. I just like underdogs.

Smackdown Zombies vs. 18-cent-a-pack missy: This is the week that Aaron Rodgers and Nate Burleson will explode. We will win this.

I would write about the other match ups but, I can only think hard about football for 3 hours at a time.
