Baby Got Book

I thought everyone knew about this. It's "Baby Got Book", not "Baby Got Bible". I don't think it's as anti-Catholic as the previously posted lyrics.

Christian rap kicks it up a notch

Lyrics:

I'm a F-A-N-A-T-I-C, Fanatic
I rep Christ till I D-I-E, Fanatic
I'm not extreme, I'm redeemed with faith
To serve a God whose extremely great
I'm a Fanatic

(Verse 1)
The world's trying to tidy up, exfoliate they skin
but only Christ can come and exfoliate they sin
And they fate look grim, If they don't take him
As the high priest he is to mediate they sin
The world's got to many Gods, man we choose the one
From hebrews, he rules, he bruised his son
He moves the sun
So if we prayin and our schools call us fools
Cuz our God's too true to shun
Channels two in one
Man it looks insane
TV make a lot Christians seem dramatically strange
Though we may be looked upon as one and same
We will not turn in shame, we proclaim the name
Christ Jesus, believe us, you ain't gotta recieve us
but we gon' follow our God wherever the bible lead us
And you can call us dramatic, fanatic, emphatic
But hate while you at it, take a look at our mathematics

(Hook)

(Verse 2)
What can I do to make it simple, make it plain
Christ came, emptied himself and let out sin hang him
You couldn't blame him for any sin
While they singing many men
The crucifixion was pretty grim
But when we state the fact that God resurrects
We get funny looks from a world that doesn't get
We are not David Koresh or Krishna
Or the people on TV who glorifying their bishop
From Edwards to Piper, MacAurther to Spurgeon
From Dallas to France, From Cali to Berlin

As Christians all over who getting the word in
We ain't crazy we just understand the truth and we burdened
The world sees us as evangelical Christians
As narrow-minded fanatics with a mythical mission
Labeled extremists for sharing out faith
But thats cool, we can carry the weight of persecution
Cuz earth is losing
And if we yelling the truth
We honored to be the people that our God is using
So keep it moving
Cuz if we yelling the truth
We honored to be the people that our God is using

(Hook)

(Verse 3)
They thought Jesus was out of his mind
they laughed and mocked him
Called him a cult leader and they tried to stop him
Pharisees said Christ got his power from Satan
Hatin', on the very one that came to save 'em
Even after he rose, man the world ain't changed
They still rejecting the name, still look at us strange
Still tell us without shame that our faith's insane
and, "it don't take all that to be a Christian man"
And its hard when you tryin to reach your family and stuff
They say man, "you too spiritual, you doing to much"
So we show them the love of Christ and live in the light
So they can glorify our God when they look at our life
And we win for sharing the truth and hearts get changed
We win if we're rejected because of his name
We win if seeds get planted and watered and grow
But even if we lost, we still be Fanatical though

Schadenfreude Pie

If you are intrigued by this pie and its philosophical implications then you can find the recipe here. It comes from the blog of a contemporary sci-fi author named John Scalzi. I'd try to make it myself, but I don't have the time for this stuff anymore. I hope someone enjoys it.

Pakistan's President Putting Moves on our National Hottie

When future VP (and President when McCain drops dead in 2 1/2 years) met Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, the conversation proceeded as follows:

“I am honored to meet you,” Ms. Palin said.

“You are even more gorgeous than you are on the (inaudible),” Mr. Zardari said.

“You are so nice,” Ms. Palin replied. “Thank you.”

“Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you,” Mr. Zardari continued. At which point an aide told the two to shake hands.

“I’m supposed to pose again,” Ms. Palin said.

“If he’s insisting,” Mr. Zardari said, “I might hug.”

WHOA! Dude, lay off! Stop using your South Asian charm to seduce America's sweetheart! Todd Palin is a good man and although he's sort of a tool that doesn't mean you have the right to steal away his wholesome, life-loving wife! She's never met a Muslim head of state as charismatic as you before, and she may be very susceptible to the effects of your well-groomed mustache. You've been warned. You should also remember that if you want any lasting relationship with her you'd have to convert to evangelical Christianity, which would really piss off the fundamentalist militants in your country, and accept that all your children would have to be given strange monosyllabic names.

All Mixed Up

Because women so delicate so mysterious Father said. Delicate equilibrium of periodical filth between two moons balanced. Moons he said full and yellow as harvest moons her hips thighs. Outside outside of them always but. Yellow. Feet soles with walking like. Then know that some man that all those mysterious and imperious concealed. With all that inside of them shapes an outward suavity waiting for a touch to. Liquid putrefaction like drowned things floating like pale rubber flabbily filled getting the odor of honeysuckle all mixed up.

Palin: Tina Fey's impersonation was 'spot on'

VP candidate watched 'SNL' skit with no volume

By Paul J. Gough

Sept 17, 2008, 05:54 PM ET

NEW YORK -- Tina Fey, Sarah Palin saw your "Saturday Night Live" impersonation -- but she didn't hear it.

The Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate told Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity that she watched the "SNL" skit that opened the late-night show's new season last Saturday night.

"I watched it with the volume all the way down," Palin said. "I thought it was hilarious."

Palin said she "didn't hear a word she said but the visual (was) spot on."

The interview runs Wednesday night on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes," and is the second interview that Palin has done since the end of August when she was picked as John McCain's running mate.

She said that people in Alaska have "for years" said that there's a resemblance between the two.

"In fact, I dressed up as Tina Fey once for Halloween," Palin said. "So we've been doing that before Tina Fey has been doing that."

In other parts of the interview, which will be aired tonight, Palin talks about the news coming out of Wall Street these past few days, the economy in general and her disagreement with McCain on drilling in the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge.

The second part of the interview airs Thursday.

2. Smackdown Zombies (Tricia) 1-0 104 pts
3. Banana Who? (Josh S.) 1-0 98 pts
4. Caprica Buccaneers (Justin's sister) 1-0 97 pts
5. You Booze You Win! (Josh S.'s friend) 1-0 76 pts

7. The Calamities (Marlowe) 0-1 78 pts
8. Fighting Skeeters (Tristan) 0-1 71 pts
9. Flaming Rancors (Annie) 0-1 69 pts
10. Vault Boy (Stefan) 0-1 52 pts
11. Superfluous Buttnoids (Justin) 0-1 45 pts
12. Super Sea Turtles (My brother) 0-1 41 pts

Results: Josh B. smoked Tristan, Justin's Sister walloped her brother, Josh S. triumphed over Marlowe, Tricia anihlilated my brother, Nicole eked out a win against Annie, and Stefan lost to YBYW.
Week 1 Awards (sponsored by Bear Stearns):
Team of the Week: Josh B.'s mighty Sensitive Butchers.  This expansion franchise begins its season with a bang, scoring the most points of any team this week on the strength of RB Michael Turner, who destroyed the Lions and whom I have never heard of ever before.
Game of the Week: Nicole's Nachos beat Annie's Rancors in a 4-point thriller.
Disappointment of the Week: Sorry Stefan, but the defending champ needs to perform better in week 1.  We have all seen that you are weak.  We smell blood.  Watch out.

Week 2 Preview:
I play Justin, Josh B. plays the friend of the other Josh, Justin's sister plays Marlowe, Josh S. plays my brother, Tricia battles  Nicole, and Stefan battles Annie.
Game of the Week: In our first battle of significant others the Annie-Stefan battle is a must watch.  Annie currently has injured starting QB Tom Brady slated to start, but she should probably change that by Sunday afternoon if she reads this post.  Otherwise Stefan has an excellent chance to get back on track.

I love this sh*t

The RNC and DNC in just over a minute:

Directly cut and pasted (but I found the photo)

Well if you read our Five Ways to Make a Cool Ghostbusters Sequel -- and agreed with our take -- then you'll be happy to know that two of our wishes may soon come true. In an email to the Chicago Tribune, Harold Ramis confirmed all this brand new Ghostbusters 3 talk, and added a few other interesting nuggets of info. Check it out:

"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we'll take it from there."

So for those who wanted the original stars to be involved, this does sound like good news -- except you're going to have to deal with the fact that they'll appear more as mentors and torch passers than anything else, which I'm personally fine with. And whether you like it or not, Apatow and his clan will probably be involved. Again, I think this is a good move ... but surprisingly most of you thought otherwise. We shall have fun debating this one for a good while, huh?

IT in DPRK

I haven't offered any North Korean info in quite a while, so I thought I'd share some stuff I just read about information technology in the hermit kingdom. The best part is that Kim Jong Il considers himself an "internet expert" and that North Korea was at one time producing and trying to export its own computers. The whole article is here.

"Kim Jong-il loves to surf the net. In 2001 he asked the U.S. Secretary of State for her e-mail address, and in 2002 he told a visiting North Korean dignitary that he spent much time going through South Korean sites. He repeated this statement during the recent summit describing himself as ``an internet expert.''
"Kim Jong-il takes the IT industry seriously. He obviously believes that the IT industry might become a wunderwaffen (super weapon) which one day will save the ailing North Korean economy (Kim Jong-il has always believed in simple, one-step, technology-based fixes for problems).
"By the early 1990s, the North was producing some 20,000 computers a year. Not much, but enough to provide for the military and even earn some money from export (over 60 percent of them were said to be exported). In the early 1990s the North Koreans developed their own software, including a word processor. The latter had, among others, a peculiar function: it could automatically insert the names of the Great Leader and Dear Leader through a specially designated hot key.
"None of the grand plans for selling locally developed software on the international market have come to fruition, but there are easier ways to make a buck. In 2002 the North Koreans started an on-line gambling site in cooperation with a South Korean company.
"Another area where North Koreans are trying their luck (and obviously not without moderate success) are game development and computer animation. Indeed, even major studios are sometimes inclined to outsource their animation work to North Korea. "

The Play

I read about this play while reading Football for Dummies. (I'm trying to learn about formations etc. ) This is from Wikipedia, but Howie Long's description is a lot more exciting.

The Play refers to a last-second kickoff return during a college football game between the University of California Golden Bears and the Stanford University Cardinals on November 20, 1982. Given the circumstances and rivalry, the wild game that preceded it, the very unusual way in which The Play unfolded, and its lingering aftermath on players and fans, it is recognized as a highly memorable play in college football history and among the most memorable in American sports.

After Stanford had taken a 20-19 lead on a field goal with four seconds left in the game, the Golden Bears used five lateral passes on the ensuing kickoff return to score the winning touchdown and earn a 25-20 victory. Members of the Stanford Band had come onto the field midway through the return, believing that the game was over, which added to the ensuing confusion and folklore. There remains disagreement over the legality of two of the laterals, adding to the passion surrounding the traditional rivalry of the annual "Big Game."

THANK GOD FOR YOUTUBE:

Josh, Front Row

I was looking at pictures of Wolf Eyes on last.fm and saw this picture. I think that's Josh in the front row.

Everyday Is Like Sunday (Or, The Bet that Morrissey Lost on His Fantasy Football Team Last Season)

Networks that include Fox and the NFL Network are airing a commercial promoting NFL football that concludes with someone singing Morrissey's "Every Day Is Like Sunday" - but only the title lyric (they'd probably lose their audience if they went much further). I can't seem to dig up a video yet, so keep an eye out for it. Next thing you know, he'll be on the field Thanksgiving day sinking his chops into a big meaty turkey leg.

A Cooking Tip

I thought I'd pass this tip along in case any of you might find it useful. I don't cook a lot of boxed foods, but did make this the other night. I was able to improve the flavor and texture by substituting part canned coconut milk and part chicken stock for the water. You can also do this with rice. I would not recommend using "lite" coconut milk, and of course you could use vegetable stock.

Palin in a Bikini

Since you guys are all in a tizzy over her...

SCFL Week 1 Preview

Tonight, the first points will be scored in the 2008 SCFL season. The Commissioner's Office thus releases the first weekly preview of our fantasy gridiron action. The league has expanded, so let's set the table for this year:

Returning teams:
Vault Boy: Stefan's defending champion, One Lame Dude, has renamed itself for the new season. He had first pick in the draft, scoring fantasy all-star LaDainian Tomlinson. Watch out.
Fighting Skeeters: Last year's runner-up looks to get crazy this year. Managed by the Commissioner. Very Packer-heavy.
Super Sea Turtles: The commissioner's little brother has also renamed his franchise. He has former U of M superduperstar Braylon Edwards.
Delicious Nachos: A great team name returns. Managed by Nicole. Has the player formerly known as Chad Johnson, who has just legally changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco! I am not kidding.
Smackdown Zombies: Tricia's band of goons. Lots of Steelers.
Superfluous Buttnoids: Justin's team. Formerly the Mean Machine.
The Calamities: Managed by Marlowe. Peyton Manning and Randy Moss. Looks pretty good.

Expansion Teams:
The Flaming Rancors: Annie joins the league and drafts supermodel-dating U of M alum Tom Brady.
Banana Who?: Josh Shultz joins the mix.
Caprica Buccaneers: Love the pirate name. Managed by Justin's sister.
You Booze You Win: Managed by Josh Schultz's friend Troy.
Sensitive Butchers: Josh Barton brings the pain.

Dearly Departed:
Graham chose not to participate this year. We will miss him.

Week 1:
It's a clean slate to begin the season.
Game of the Week
is Vault Boy vs. YBYW. Will Stefan defend his title?
Other games: Sensitive Butchers vs. Skeeters, Buccaneers vs. Buttnoids (Sibling rivalry game!), Banana Who vs. Calamities, Zombies vs. Turtles, Rancors vs. Nachos.

Next fashion statement: Sarah Palin eyeglasses

This was in the Lansing State Journal today:

The nation's eyes aren't just on Gov. Sarah Palin - they're on her glasses.

It's been awhile since the optical business has been as charged by celebrity specs as it has by the rimless pair the vice presidential nominee wears most of the time. If she wins, it could rock the vision-care market, which totals $26.6 billion a year, says tracker Jobson Optical Research.

"We keep getting calls from dealers who want to stock the exact shape and style that she's wearing," said Amy Hahn, vice president at Italee, the U.S. distributor of the frames designed by Kazuo Kawasaki, a Japanese industrial designer.

The Palin frame - minus the lenses - starts at a suggested $375. Depending on the type of lenses, the total package runs to $700.

"She's what's new, and consumers want what's new," said Dr. Joyce Brothers, the consumer psychologist. "But if she loses, you won't see many people in those glasses."

Funny that the article uses the term "celebrity specs".

Overheard in East Lansing

Adam: Makes everything else I say seem less ridiculous, doesn't it?

Take-backs

I wrote a silly rant about the Giuliani and Palin speeches. I was real mad, and I am sorry if you saw it. Hopefully you didn't.

However, the comments section of this article on Palin's speech is PURE GOLD. Some of my faves:

"Whose support is she really looking for? Moms who vote for other Moms simply because they are Moms?"

"I'm totally going to vote for her in the next student council election."

"...a terrorist strike?...she couldn't even handle Nancy Pelosi."

"Did anyone notice the little girl spit on her hand and wiped it on the baby's head? SNL- get on it!"

"I started imagining her as the nasty lady down the street that comes and chews you out if your lawn gets an inch too long."

Celeb sighting!

Tom Savini of zombie/vampire movie, and special effects/makeup artist fame, turned his silver PT Cruiser onto Ella street while I waited for the bus. The vanity license plate was either Shazman or Shazam.

Palin - according to the Wikipedia...

During the period Sarah Palin and her husband were members of the Alaskan Independence Party,[3] which "challenges the legality of the Alaskan statehood vote as illegal and in violation of United Nations charter and international law" and has a platform calling for a referendum on whether Alaska should secede from the United States to become an independent nation, remain a state, or become a U.S. territory or commonwealth. It is not known whether Palin herself agrees with this plank in the Alaskan Independence Party's platform; Wally Hickel won a second term as governor in 1990 running under the party's banner, but never advocated seceding from the Union.[3][18]

Prediction

Prediction: SNL will have Tina Fey back to play Sarah Palin for at least one episode, hopefully for the opening "Live From New York" segment, but probably just for Weekend Update.
