Nathaniel Hawthorne

My photo:

(Nathaniel Hawthorne's house where he wrote, by the ocean, Salem, MA)

Dogface

I haven't felt like this since I went to that private Baptist school my freshman year of high school

I think my beard is starting to affect peoples' perceptions of me. I think that they think I look funny. But men have been growing beards far bigger than this for thousands of years, what's the big deal?

Would the professional thing to do be to shave it?

Jane and I went to a bar/restaurant last night. She ordered the special of the pulled pork BBQ sandwich, but the waitress misheard and brought her a full rack of BBQ pork ribs. Jane looked funny with a plate of food in front of her that was as big as her torso.

Life update:
I have begun a new personal project influenced by my library/archives studies: The digitization and consolidation of all of my recorded works/scraps/audio ideas into a single folder on my computer. This means I'm sifting through lots of really old 4-track tapes. I thought this would be a good idea if anything should ever happen to me. Then Jane would be able to find all that stuff and prove to people that I tried to do something worthwhile.

And now a letter to you all:

Dear friends and familiar faces,

The generation of classroom and co-op dwellers that has succeeded us is unfriendly.

In short, I miss you all.

In length, the new generation perceives me as old enough to be their father, when I'm really only old enough to be their older brother.

Sincerely,
Joshua

Book Talk

About literature. Recently, I finished Moby Dick. The experience shifted my life. This picture best illustrates.

Hello. Am I doing this right? I have a couple photos. I'll try to keep my posts brief, I promise. We did this once at Vail and everyone just bitched.

Internet Comics

I thought it would be nice to post links to some of my favorite comics on the internet.

Achewood is the best.

http://www.achewood.com/

This is a guy named James Kochalka's journal. He makes a new one for every day.

These are pretty good.

And finally, for those interested in comics journalism and criticism:

I can post more if you're interested.

Take care everybody, and where should we do the Superbowl?

Hot air.

Here's a suggested link, to a site I never have enough time to investigate thoroughly enough: http://www.politicalgraphics.org/home.html. It's 48 degrees in Ann Arbor and there are parents everywhere. Inexplicably. What's more, no one comes to the Fine Arts Library on the anniversary of the Challenger space shuttle disaster. Does anyone know how/if we can post movies from our own hard drives instead of from google? For now I conclude with a picture.

bibliostudies and free labor

whatup bitches.

wcbn initiations mandate that i learn new things about music that i am unfamiliar with. i have decided that my first round of explorations will be within the realm of hip hop and i would appreciate your recommendations and advice.

but i'll tell you up front that i'm already biased against that cali shit.

i'm exploring wu-tang and the various related solo projects. killah priest is pretty cool.

check out this place where i'm probably going to do an internship over the summer:
http://thompsonmuseum.org

i'm going to catalog/appraise/arrange a collection of rare books left by three generations of white, rich bankers.

i don't have any cool pictures to post.

Music?

I bought a CD yesterday that I thought would be good, but it turned out to be awful. I've been trying to find good music. Can anyone recommend something? Vlad, if you are reading this, what were some of the bands that you and Jordan told me about?

Also, I set up the "comments" component so it opens in a pop-up window. Let me know if you don't like that.

And, can we post quicktime videos on this? I think we should put Adam's chest hair burning on the digital highway.
question: superbowl party at vail? (or other location with cable)

Ode to Tay

My first contribution will be a spontaneous middle school-type haiku about someone after whom I model my life.

Hello Everyone...

This is Tarek. We need to find a way to make clear who it is that is posting a particular message. Maybe we should just end every message with, e.g. '-Tarek' or '-Graham'. Oh, wait, ok I see it now. Sorry.

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog

Ok. Here's how I posted the video below.
  1. Go to http://video.google.com/ and find a video you like (I searched for triumph). Or get a free account and upload your own video.
  2. When you go to the video's page, click "Put on site"
  3. Copy the code it gives you and paste it into a post like this one.

Shout out to Ann Arbor/Marquette/Beirut....

Good idea Graham. I want to add this awesome picture of the moon taken by the Apollo 16 astronauts. Also, here's a link to my research group so you guys can get an idea of what I'm up to. Also, Bear Mountain Picnic has a revamped website. I look forward to seeing some of you at Johnny's new place this weekend.

First Post

Hi my friends. I thought this might be a good idea, if you are interested. Please post whatever you would like to on this website. I'm trying to figure out ways to set it up so anyone can post at any time.

I thought this was a good idea to keep a central location for our mass email-type content, and allow multiple people to respond without mailbox cloggage.

Love, Graham.
